MacBook Air hinge problems Picture
Wow, that looks bad! Apple should be able to take care of you if you go up the chain of command. They’re a very reasonable company as long as you talk to the right person. Our rocky history with the MacBook Air Rev. A has been well documented, and while Apple would very much like us to forget all about it and plop down another $1,800 for the much-improved Rev. B, not everybody has that sort of birthday money to throw around. Reports of cracked hinges on the laptop are nothing new, but we always assumed Apple would eventually ‘fess up to the problem and comp those repairs. Sadly, that doesn’t seem to be the case, and we just got another report of a hapless MacBook Air owner who has a broken hinge that Apple says will cost $800 to repair, despite the fact the laptop is under warranty. Our own MacBook Air Rev. A had the exact same problem — the hinge becomes loose over time, then suddenly catches and cracks from normal use, it’s not from undue stress — and Apple did the repair for free, but only after we escalated the issue to a manager, who let us know how very nice of them that was. From reading various reports, that seems the exception to Apple’s repair policy, which lists this sort of damage as “accidental,” and we’re wondering how widespread this issue may be. If you or a loved one has been affected, hit up the poll below and pour out your heart in comments. If you’re unscathed or MBA-free, feel free to show very little compassion to your fellow man.

Battery – I agree the life is crap. However, as mentioned this is expected from this kind of machine and it doesn’t bother me since I’ll have it plugged in most of the time. Was more looking for a relocatable machine that I can use anywhere in my house than a true notebook.
Touchpad Buttons – Agreed on the design is hard to click but for general use I am used to them now. I use a mouse most of the time however.
Speakers – No subwoofer so a bit tinny but not bad otherwise. Periodic click comes from them though it doesn’t really bother me – others have reported this as well and it will probably be solved by a BIOS update or something.
Camera – Mine came from factory with the lens mis-seated in the bezel and they are replacing it for me. There is a noticable lag in the capture but I am unsure if this is a factor of the misalignment or not.
It is very good. It is one of those rare products that keep you smiling happily every time you use it. I was at first skeptical about the “weak” CPU and small screen/keyboard size. But in fact it loads and runs faster than big laptops with Vista on them, and neither keyboard nor screen make me feel uncomfortable when I use them.

Dell Studio 15 media problem-Dell Laptop Review Picture
Dell Studio 15 with 15.4 WLED display (1440×900),2.1GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T8100,4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 667MHz,320GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM),256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450,Dell 1510 wireless-N card,Dell Wireless 370 Bluetooth Module (2.0),6 Cell Battery.
Dell Studio 15 windows has started the eject button stays lit up and for about 5 to 10 minutes and none of the touch sensitive buttons work, then eventually the CD drive will eject what ever is in there and the light on the eject button will go off and all the buttons will work normally. I’m finding this incredibly annoying.
I talked with Dell Tech Support ealier today and had much better luck than others seemed too… I had the exact same problem many described: the eject button stayed on and the media direct touch buttons stopped working. Here’s the fix… Turn your computer off, unplug it, turn it over and remove the battery. Underneath the battery, there are two small philip’s head screws. Remove these screws and turn the computer back over. Open your laptop as wide as possible and now you can pop out the panel that the touch buttons are on. It takes a little wiggling, but pop it off from one side and then wiggle it to completely remove it. The panel is attached to the computer though a thin white strip that connects into a little “chip” on the underside of the panel. The tech told me to remove it, but I never could get it out. I jiggled it around some though, replaced the panel, put the screws and battery back in, fired up my beloved computer and now she works perfectly!!! It didn’t take any BIOS upgrades or anything else – just some cable wiggling!
Hopefully this works for y’all too. Good luck! All in all it’s been a bad experience for me and I would
not purchase another Dell…
