My Best Laptop

HP Mini 110-1126NR is small and compact, fits perfectly in my book bag and weighs less than 3lbs. Came with a 6-cell battery so I am looking at around 8 hours of battery life. Perfect for taking notes in class, working through excel, viewing PowerPoint, and checking email. I plan on putting it in the kitchen when I am done with grad school so my wife and I can store recipes or anything else we may need. With the wireless hook up and the compact size for $350 this netbook is a great addition to your home network.

Samsung N140-14R was based on the N10 series, but the saddest feature which the sure could have stolen from the N120 is the wonderful embedded Speakers surrounding the screen. It has over 8 hours of battery life. Win7 Starter does not allow you to change your wallpaper nor is there any aero transparent glass, no media center or other such goodies. Quickly did the “anytime” on-line upgrade thing to Win7 home premium. Also for best performance with streaming videos (such as instant play netflix movies) press Fn&F8 at the same time to change power settings. Also be sure to install the 2gb memory upgrade, periodicaly go to Samsung’s web site and get any desired updates including bios.

Toshiba Mini NB205-N325BL with Win 7 boots faster than Vista does on my much more powerful laptop. I’ve eked out more than the 9 hours on the label, amazing battery life. light and a pleasure to use. The full-sized keyboard makes typing easy and with 3 USB ports, if you need peripherals, you’re covered. The keyboard is a little squishy which takes a moment to get used to and I wish there was more than just a VGA port for video options, but overall as long as you’re not trying to stream full-screen 1080 resolution movies, you’ll find nothing to complain about. I’m surprised to say this, I prefer Win 7 Starter. Everything just works flawlessly on this little netbook and I can’t find anything that really disappoints me.

Lenovo S10-2 is nice and tiny and light. The battery helps position the computer so that it sits up off the work surface and can breathe. The Windows 7 thing seems to be great so far: a lot better than Windows Vista. it comes with Word installed, which makes my life as a student much easier. This easily will serve its purpose as an extra machine to take notes on and take to the library. It’s very quick on the Internet, as well. A great deal for the money.

ASUS Eee PC T91MT with 2GB of RAM and a 500 GB hard drive, but with the entry-level 1.33 GHz Intel processor. Reading any size of PDF files was a breeze. Acrobat 9 ran quickly on the T91MT. The ability to rotate the screen by pressing a button on the frame lets you chose portrait or landscape. Internet usage was as fast as on my dependable desktop. It gets far better with headphones or a good set of PC speakers where the soundcard does a great job. Both streaming audio from Pandora and mp3 on the local disk sounded great. The hinge is very Solid & stays in place exactly the Way you want it.

MacBook Air is a legitimate product maybe coming to mainstream American shelves, it looks like a decent machine. It power by Intel Atom N280 processor, can to run OS X. Its thin, light, and sexy. Actually a chrome Apple logo on top of glossy white/glossy black plastic, like the iPhones, would be a cool look for their lower end white MacBook. I might buy it and cover up any Apple logos.

Acer AOD250-1383 is a great netbook. It is lighter, even with the 6 cell battery. The fan turn on when browsing the web, running virus scans, etc. is quieter. Keyboard is 89% the size of a regular keyboard, and it is smaller than Dell, HP, and Asus 10″ netbook keyboards. The 250GB Hard Drive has NO hard disk vibrations. 10.1″ WSVGA Acer CrystalBrite LED Display is a matte screen to the glossy screen. Windows 7 Starter is very comparable to Windows XP. Price for $326.

Gateway LT2022u is a little small. I haven’t had this netbook very long but i’m impressed already. It with 1GB of Ram and 160GB Hard Drive are ample. 2.62 pounds light weight is incredible. It runs smoothly and I can operate multiple programs at once. You may want to adjust the touchpad so that you don’t drag items on accident, and the keyboard takes a little adjusting to. Wow less than 230$ for this.

Dell Inspiron Mini 1011 is a quality brand and is very affordable and the colors of this little netbook make it cooler than the average black ones out there. Good wireless and fast with windows 7 light. With 160gb hard drive she can store what ever she wants. It has an 1.6GHz Intel N270 Atom Processor, 1GB of Ram, 10.1″ Display, 8 Hours 8 Minutes of Battery Life, All of this in a 5 pounds package. Price in the $330-$480 price range.

Acer AOD250-1025 is an excellent netbook. It run Windows 7 Starter Operating System which is a huge improvement over Vista and is as good as or better than windows XP. Total of 2gb ram, and this little computer works great. The battery life is great, about 3 Hours Battery Life for simple surfing web and word processing. 160GB SATA Hard Drive is enough.
